scared fh?

How big is he? That will tell us a lot. He should be in a 75 gallon or larger especially with another FH. Mine was really scared, he was shipped to me. It took him about a week to settle in. What are your water parameters? Ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. Sometimes with spikes they act funny. Some FH's are skittish until they get big, like a JD.

i think its not because of the tank size, as per by google the minimum tank size of FH is 35g, meaning to say 40g is big enough... i have 2 fries before sharing in 10g till they got 5 inches, i do 50% W/C twice a week and i don't experiencing the same problem...

here's my thread for my two Zz in 10g...
don't worry i already sold the 1st and transfered the 2nd one to 35g at my grandfather's house...

Do you have lots of hiding spots for him? Just wait until he gets older, he will outgrow it. I just think some fish are more skittish then others. This one seems to be really shy and there really is nothing you can do about it right now except maybe add dithers. But you only have him in a 40 gallon so I don't think you can fit anything else in there with him. Im sorry I have to politely disagree with a FH living for life in a 40 gallon if that is what you meant. Yes, for now he is fine but in time he will need a 55 gallon or larger, they get to 12 to 14”. Sorry if you meant he is okay for now, but not for life.

Do you offer a variety of different foods. Sometimes variety helps skittish fish come out and trust the owner. I know it sounds dumb but it's true. My FH was skittish for a week when I got him, as soon as I added fish crisps he was all over the place. Now he is up front and center begging for food. You could try raw shrimp, they always love that.

lol yea theres heaps of hiding spots, his only in a 40gallon until his about 6" then hell get moved into a 55 gallon and yes i feed him flowerhorn pellets, bloodworms, market shrimps and sometimes a few crickets i buy, hopefully hell outgrow it his a beautiful fish too bad he doesnt show it

Just give him some time, he will grow out of it and be attacking the glass soon. lol Seriously! Some babies are just shy. What does he act like when you clean the tank? Especially when they are the only fish in the tank.. Im glad your moving him into a bigger tank, they get big. Sounds like he gets a variety.

yup, what i meant is just for now because its only 2 months old meaning its about 1 & half or 2 inches yet...no offense mate, whether you disagree or agree but 14 inches FH can live healthy in 35g if give him a good care.. :)
