I have had my new P. Managuensis for about 2 weeks now. At the LFS it was in a high traffic area. I brought it home, it wasn't in the bag more than a half an hour. I put it in my big tank and it hid for a dy or so and then would come out. I noticed it was chased around by my other cichlids, and it was having a hard time getting food because competition was high so I put him in a 30 gallon tank with just a 2 inch gold fish. It was in the big tank for week and now it has been in the 30 gallon tank for a week. The fish is still super skiddish and hides whenever I walk in my room. The jag is only 2 inches long. In the tank there is one big rock that has plenty of spots to hide in or behind. I use a pfs substrate and there is a plastic plant. I thought it might be that the light is too bright, so I put a towel underneath the light to make it dimmer. Unfortunately the fish is still in constant hiding. Even when I put food in the tank he hides until I am not moving for a while then he will cautiously find the food. (atleast I know it is eating). It is a fairly new tank so it may not be one cycling so that could be part of it i guess. The tank has only been up and running for a week with only 2 small fish. Oxygen should be at a good level because the water from the filter falls far enough to create bubbles under it, plus the fish don't crowd under the water fall. Any suggestions to make my fish more friendly or will it just grow into it? My tanks are both in my room so it doesn't get tons of traffic besides me and the occasionally parent or sibling. My big tank is super ative and nobody hides so maybe its just new fish syndrome. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. This fish was gorgeous for a small Jag at the LFS! Spots already developing at 2 inches, and its fins were spotted and super blue. Hopefully I have a stunner.

Let him hide. My jag was terrified of everything at that size. Once he grew and recognized me as a source of food he was out and about. But for along time(I'm talking two months) it dart for cover as soon as it saw me. Let him hide, they get over it

Give him time.....let him grow couple of inches....then u will see a total change. Ensure slow movement in front of the tank.....figure out his favorite food and associate with it n he will reach out for u....patience os very key here....for dither add a small guppy or 2.....good luck n cheers
