I currently have a scarlet pleco that ive had for about 2months. I just want to know if it is ok to feed him a little bit of cucumber along with shrimp pellets and blood worms. Ive heard that bloodworms can mess up the plecos digestive system is this true??

What is the best food for this pleco to insure his health??

Thanks,
Don

Bloodworms can if you feed your fish too much with it. Do it only once a week or at least sparingly.

Bearing mind of course that it is a carnivorous sp.

offer mussel and prawn as an alternative to bloodworm.

Cucumber won't hurt him if he eats it

Switch the cucs for zucs.

:iagree: Forget Cuc's, offer zuks or melon rinds....bloodworms are too messy for the small tank, most will get sucked into your filter...Feed heavy at night before bed, remove uneaten food in the morning...good luck let's see pics!

what size is it? Adults need more protein are almost entirely carnivorous. My 13-incher won't touch zuchinni or veggies...but it will eat shrimp or bloodworm cubes out of my hand!

Thats awsome i cant wait for mine to get bigger it is still a baby at about 2 1/2 in. It doesnt seem to like cucumber bc i had it in with a royal and the sacrlet never touched it. I heard prawns and mussels. Can i feed it krill?? how long did it take for it to get that big??

when I got it, it was 10" and I've had him a year or so. Try feeding yellow squash if they don't like the green stuff. If you have the shrimp pellets, push them into the squash (or veggie), then its dietary needs are met. Krill might work, haven't tried with my guys.
