Lessons learned.

1. DO NOT Google just the word "scat" and click on the images. Totally NOT what I wanted! Google "scat fish"

2. We picked up a couple spotted scat fish from the lfs. We were new in the hobby and the sales guy said they were fine. Then one day while cleaning the tank one of them jumped out. I went down to pick it up and the spines poked my finger. It was instantly painful and blood was gushing out. More pain then when I broke my ankle or tore my shoulder muscle. Still managed to get a net and put the fish back in the tank. Ran to get some ice and told my wife to Google what to do. We were supposed to put hot water on it. My finger was sore to the touch for a several weeks. Anyways we returned the fish without asking for our money back and told the guy about what happened. He was clueless that it was poisonous.

I used to have one of these (since traded it back in). Terrific fish, full of personality.

I did research before I bought the fish, and warned the lady who netted it to be careful as I had read about the toxin. Of course she stuck herself...

Their dorsal fins are supposed to carry toxins. I never got stuck myself, but the lady said her hand hurt for a few days. You probably were penetrated more deeply. :(
