Looking to add some tank mates with my silver arowana nothing exceeds over 5 inches tho. Any good suggestions?

For temporary or permanent? Because a shoal of 5 inches species most likely will become Silver Arowana food later on!

You kind of have to get something that gets big.

If you have enough caves or rock work a school of spotted raphaels may work. Maxed out about 5-6inches and they prefer to stay in a pack. Also greedy scavengers that will gorged themselves into a golfball if possible. Downsides would be they are highly inactive in the days and prefer to hide together in a cave. Also if your arowana decides to go to the bottom and eat them, it may injure itself due to the spikes and spines the raphaels possess.
But then again, your arowana would most likely ignore them. Even my 17in endli bichir ignore the little 3 inches striped raphael i had with it even though it could easily eat it

Spotted SD's:) Had a 14 inch Silver Aro in with them until Aro jumped out to its death, btw tank size is 180 gal. The SD's are in. The aquarium should be long due to the SD's speed , and so they look great in a school. the cichlid Iin the pick is about 8 inches, compare size with the spotted sd's in the background.

When I was growing aro out in a 55 gal it caught, and ate three columbian tetra the speed of aro is under estimated imo.
