So, the wife and I need a new tv. I have an old magnavox 27" from 11 years ago. Time to upgrade :D I know nothing about these new sets. Looking for somthing about 35-42" :) What do you have and like?

My wife has a 60" widescreen flat screen :) Walmart special :D Is wonderful :)

I say my wife because I got a large tank and get another larger one in two years and the tv is her large tank :D

But she watches mine more than hers :D was like 850.00 And unlike the others they had you can see the picture on ours from almost 180 degree angle..

Wow thats a good deal, what brand of tv exacly?

at that size range definately LCD over plasma. I have a 40" samsung and its great. Plasma's have a shorter life and if anything goes wrong your screwed.

Tell my why, and ill give you my preference and reasoning afterwards.
I am pro-plasma , btw.

Simple. Cheaper to replace dead pixels then to refill the plasma.

Don't get me wrong, plasma has its perks that tend to be better than LCD, the fact that when the sun is on plasma, it doesn't darken the picture, where with LCD it will make it nearly impossible to see. Plus today they are both pretty close in price.

Plasmas dont get refilled. And both plasmas and lcds have the same lifespan before the light output becomes half of the original ( 60,000 hours ) .

I do agree on bright rooms that LCDs have an advantage since they have a backlight plus their screens are not made of glass like plasma.

However, when it comes to reproducing colors, Plasmas have a distinct edge over lcd. Plasma also provides even viewing from all angles.. LCD's turn dark when viewed from the side. And lastly, i cant stand LCD's when watching fast paced shows like basketball... LCDs blur ..

LCDs are fixing those problems fast though. from what ive heard. the sony xbr2 lCDs have excellent color quality and minimum blur.
