Hey. my 7 year old needs to do a science fair project and she would like to include are fish, eels, frogs or newt somehow. it has to be something that will keep fish safe and we only have 3-4 days of experimenting. any ideas?
Make sure you check with the school about using vertebrates in your experiment. When I was a kid (8ish) I got disqualified from the science fair because I used fish. I tried teaching a maze to goldfish which went on to live long lives in my tanks. My teachers all knew what I was doing it was just when the county higher ups came to judge they saw the fish and disqualified me. At that age I was pretty upset.
The substrate idea is a pretty good one. You could also do an analysis of the varied mouth types in fish and link them back to food/feeding.
Its not for judging. its just for participation. fish are allowed. it has to be something where i dont have to take in the fish. We also have live plants, morays, a paddletail newt and two clawed frogs.
Well for my science fair project I did what food gives better coloration in betta fish. It won an award, but if you didnt want to buy a new set up you could use the clwaed frogs in an iscolated tank. Good Luck!
