Hey guys. In prep for my tank I am getting a shopping list together for a few fish. My LFS want scientific names to try and ensure the correct fish are sent over by the crazy dutch breeders :-)

so here ismy question. What are the scientific names for the red neck severum, the super red severum, and also the Guy I this pic http://keysboroughaquarium.com.au/images/severum.jpg
which ibelieve is a Heros efasciatus!?!

The reason I ask is I have found references too many names some of which conflict other statements

thanks in advance guys

As far as anyone knows, super red sev's are line bred gold sevs, which in turn are line bred green sevs (H. efasciatus).

Rotties (red shoulder) are a bit more difficult. In the States and Canada, we treat them as an undescribed, seperate species ... Heros sp. Rotkiel. In Europe, it seems they are treated as a location color form of the green sev.

Until they are adressed by a scientist, it will continue to be a debate as to what they are (or are not).

And yes, the guy in your pic seems to be a turquoise variant of H. efasciatus.

Top stuff ppl that is what i managed to deduce. And if you agree then it must be good enough to ensure the right fishies come to the LFS.

Now i just have to decide how many to order.......... 50x21x24............. i like the idea of a severum tank. but on the other hand i had planned on a Rotkeil a Efasciatus "super red" and the main atraction ..... a astronotus ocellatus :D
