Is anyone else capable of recognizing a fish by its scientific name but is completely clueless when it comes to pronunciation?

Absolutely, they aren't named to be easy to pronounce!

I'm not a fan of common names at all, and would much rather have a crack at scientific names, or at least abbreviations of them ie. "leucosticta" = "leuco", than use a common name like "Green Horseface", which causes more confusion than it solves in many cases, and leaves the true identity with the possibility of being open ended.

I also can't say them but can recognize a variety of species by their scientific names. Do all your Google searches using Latin names and you will get used to them.

i cant pronounce some scientific names (though i try) but i can recognize a fish by its scientific name without much difficulty

well i can recognize alot of fish by its scientific name and if not that atleast what group the name belongs to. but i think we still need common names to understand each other completey. just agree upon one common name instead of 5

I definitely have a hard time pronouncing the scientific names. Spelling them is much easier for me than saying them. Sometimes it's embarassing when I go to my LFS and I don't know how to correctly pronounce the name I am trying to say. Oh well, it makes me feel better to know that others have the same trouble ;)
