I was under the impression that the whole reason for eating the delicacy was the slight tingling you get when you eat the flesh due to trace amounts of the tetrodotoxin left in the meat even after it has been prepared properly.

if they remove that, I am sure the purists won't eat the non lethal version anyway..

ps they say its non lethal - they don't tell you it will still paralyze you for life LOL
 
The purists won't be happy but the opposite might just be as there won't be much tetrodotoxin to worry your life about.lol
 
The toxin is build up from bacteria in their diet in the wild. They haven't bred per say rather raised them on a diet free of the bacteria. I doubt the purists are going to go for it, isn't it more a mental/sense thing than the taste?
