Hey guys, up until now I've been keeping cichlids (mainly SA). I recently purchased a Saratoga and I'm loving how elegant, yet ferocious this prehistoric animal is.

He's (?) currently living in an 8'x5'x20" pond (pool) alongside 4 oscars. He seems quite placid around the O's, however the oscars are petrified of him and hide 90% of the time. I'm considering selling the oscars and either keeping the lei alone or with some other natives.

The lei is roughly 60cm (24inches?) and the oscars vary from 25 to 35cm (9-13inches?).

Being fairly new to the species, any hints/tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info from my end... Ask away

Nice pick up. I have a small 9" Leichhardti. What are you feeding it.

Nice find decent size too make sure that pool cover is on tight and secure at all times as they do jump and do knock lids covers off /open
Depending on the aggression he may decide for you over the next week or so if your keeping the Oscars , hiding 90% of the time before aggression kicks in isn't a good sign tbh but at least you've got a lei not a jardini so theres always a chance they'll be OK together once pecking order is established

Nice pick up. I have a small 9" Leichhardti. What are you feeding it.

Basa fillet stuffed with NLS float. Hes looking a little thin at the moment, however he has a big appetite so It shouldn't take long to fatten him up.

Argh no, I'm a united fan. I've been in Brisbane (Aus) for almost 10 years now.

he was an Alty legend , apparently although he looked like a trap he was loaded from all the scrap metal he sold over the years

I can't blame you for moving to aus man its amazing , I did six weeks traveling up the east coast in 05 stayed with old neighbours in Manley Sydney and the Irish lot in the gap Brisbane rest of the time was partying in hostels lol
