Only a Scomb? - one of the hardest fish to keep alive - congrats!

Nice angle he's swimming on, can definately tell the species by the extreme angle he's swimming at - it's a joke, ppl think Scombs swim on angles when both yours and mine swim horizontal - like I said only a Scomb, keep him alive and togather we can dispel alot of inaccurate info being given on these guys.

Haha yea the whole angle thing never understood that myself the only time i see him on an angle is when he is hunting and even then its not that often. Lol ive even seen him snag a goldie upside down. The other one i dont really understand is why they "always" die when they hit 12 in. I guess ill see when it comes time hes only 4 inches away. Ill post a full tank shot when i get off work.

Probaly because they only get 12-16" - I'm yet to see a pic of a large Vamp not Tat or Armatus reeled in by a fisherman. Although there are many fisherman pics labeled Scomberiodes, upon closer inspetion the fish are not. Also they come in to the stores at 7-9" , it's taken mine all but 2 years to get that big. Also stores advertise these guys like they are their cousins - get up to 4' and when they don't it must be sudden death syndrome not old age. There are many fish on this planet both salt and fresh that don't live long lives - some only 2-4 years.

Exactly there just isnt enough accurate info about them yet. What i am curious to see is how long he will last after the 12 inch mark granted it makes it that long. Does it always seem to be short term after that or they lasting another 6 months to a year at 12in. And your right they they could just have a short life span. Which also makes me curious has anyone ever come across a scomb that is only 2 inches or so?

thanks for sharing man! nice tank and fish you got there.. hope someone figures out the "scombs code" pretty soon.. maybe it'll be you hehe
