I came home from work just now and I found a 40 gal acrylic tank sitting outside my house on the backyard porch. Old, but can be cleaned up. It was from my dads friend and I guess its a gift from my dad. So, I'm definately going to put it to use and I really want to start having my first cichlid(s).

I know this might be hard, but by chance is there any aggressive cichlid that can live in a 40 gal for life? The tank is 36 inches long x 15 inches wide x 16 inches high.

I just really want to have my first cichlid(s), and also be mean at the same time. :headbang2

thanks!

So..any fish stocking suggestions? I was thinking I'd like it better to be with one cichlid with the tank all for himself.

How about convict or firemouth? Neither get that big and you could have them in the 40 gallon. You might be able to have a pair of either. Although, if male and female you will have a bunch of fry to deal with. You could prolly do a electric blue jack dempsey. That would look really nice. I am not sure if a regular jack dempsey or green terror could live in a 40 gallon, but I am sure others will give more suggestions.

Wow im really diggin' the looks and the reviews of Grammodes'. For my 40 gal tank is one male gramm the max? Or do you guys think I can pull off having a female in there as well?
