I want to get into scrap metal but I don't know how to tell metal from one kind from the other. Tomorrow I going to pick up a washer/dryer and a lawn mower I don't know what I can get out of the lawn mower and the washer/dryer, anything about scrap please share because I know very lil if anything about this biz

anyone scrap

put it in your truck and take it to the yard, they'll tell you what it is and you'll learn soon enough. There's really no way to teach what metal is what, you just kind of have to see it enough and you'll be able to tell what it is to a certain extent.

probably everything on a washer/dryer and lawn mower is going to be steel thiough

A magnet will stick to steel or iron and not anything else. Copper and brass is yellowish/brownish and aluminum is very light and silverish. Painted steel is worth less than raw/unpainted steel and the same goes for painted anything else. If you separate the different metals you will get more than if they are all assembled and mixed together.

Old car radiator coils can get a decent price but if you take those in make sure you take off all plastic or it is worth less.

If you can find an old freezer, Your local tweaker on the corner might be interested in the freon. Be careful not to get the freon close to open flames or "POW", mustard gas. Dont ask me how I know these strange facts.
*On a side note: I dont know much about scrapping metals.

some ppl that know how to scrap plz post

if you have the time and interest to take that washer and mower apart and seperate the parts , then you will get more , also plastic is worthless to them and you will get more for metal stripped of plastic. one thing i used to do as a kid was find lots of copper wire (my uncle was a carpenter and would always throw away the old house wiring) and strip the plastic from it using a homemade jig , i would get 2.10$ perpound stripped , and 1$ if i left the plastic casing.
