i know your 13 and everything and grammar isn't taught as well as it used to be in schools but "How do you propose your going control it" is perfectly fine english

not a half bad idea though, good thinking you'll just need a way to shut it off (shut off the pump) when it gets to the apropriate temp maybe with one of those heater controller type things

EDIT : didn't see the typo in his post it should be "how do you propose your (not to) going to control it anyway my bad)

DawnMarie, how dare you have a typo!!! I think we can forgive you for it...

Zfishies, I do not think you understand the product you are considering...

It pumps water through a pipe/hose that is attached to a black surface... The unit is placed in the sun... the black surface absorbs heat, thus heating the water... The water that leaves the unit is warmer than it was when it was pumped into the unit...

Which leaves us with the question... How do you propose to control the heat?

You could put together a DIY version for abotu $40... or buy the ToysRUs version for $160... either way there is no heat control... and it's useless in the winter months...

ahhh now i get. this is right, i have no idea how i would control it, this really sucks now. Zander could you describe a heater control type thing??/ were could i get one?

It would take a termperature control... an electric thermometer that turns the pump off when the tank reaches the desired temp... and turns the pump back on when when the temp falls below the desired temp...

But... to use this successfully you will need to place the black surface outside and in direct sunlight... This means you will need to pump water outside... which means you will need to either drill a hole in yoru house or leave a window cracked or modify something...

After doing all fo this work, keep in mind in the winter months the cold outside air will cool the water more than the sun heats it... thus this unit will only work for the hotter months of the year.

It will also likely need to be moved to ensure maximum direct exposure to the sun as the seasonis progress...

Oh, and what are you going to do at night?

Ok but it's a pond btw so I don't need to do the window suff and am in Los angles rarely we get cloudy days, anyway at night Ill guess I'll just have a plug in heater,it shouldt use that much engergy just for the night??and could u provide me with a link for the tempurture controll thing ? Edit : it doest really get cold here and by tempurture control I ment the eletric temamortor (not sure if I spelled that right sorry am on an iPod)

It will be much more realistic as a heater for an outdoor pond...

But it will not serve any function at night... Using common type electrical heaters are exceptionally inefficient on outdoor ponds. We suggest you fover your tiny aquarium to reduce het loss. Consider the surface area of a pond compared to that of an aquarium... now consider the difference in termperature between aquarium water and indoor ait temps (5~15*F) now consider the difference in water temps to outdooor overnight temps in the early spring or late fall... much less winter...

I don't have any links for the termperature guage you are looking for readily available. The same termpature probes used for syncing heaters would likely work for this application. Using the search function on the forum you should be able to find a few...

FYI, heating an outdoor pond to 80*F year round has been discussed repeatedly on this and other forums. It's simply not practical anywhere in the US...
