I got a 4 inch elongatus today and it has this mark on the tip of its lower lip. I'm sure he got this from constant rubbing against the aquarium glass. Will this mark/ scratch disappear? How do I cure it - melafix? Is there anything I can do to avoid this from happening again? Install a powerhead for strong water circulation?

Thanks!

Sorry, I can't post pictures right now but am sure that the mark/ scratch on the tip of the lower lip was caused by constant rubbing/ hitting against the glass. Will this eventually heal back to normal? I want a clean fish. :)

Thanks!

Unless its a scar, it will most likely heal back, and it will do so pretty quickly. There is also a thing called a chimple, which looks like a bump on the mouth area. A chimple is due to constant rubbing on the glass. This can be prevented by keeping the fish in a proper tank size. What size tank is your elong in?

My 4 inch elongatus is in a 50 gallon tank. Will a chimple disappear/ heal too in time? Am planning to treat it with melafix. I believe the mark is due to constant rubbing against the glass.

Do you think adding a powerhead will keep him from rubbing against the glass?

Thanks!

Yes a chimple will heal in time, my fish get them all the time. No need for melafix, if you feel you have to add something, just throw in a little aquarium salt. Yes chimples are from glass rubbing and constantly running into the glass. A powerhead may help, some of my P's love them and some hate them, its worth a shot.
You can also try putting some plastic plants or decorations on each side of the tank so the fish may not run into the sides as much.

Thanks stevelamby. I'll be adding a little salt upon water change. I hope the chimple heals and disappears soon!

It should, just make sure you dissolve the salt as much as you can in a glass of tank water, dont just throw it right in. Good luck! :cool-1:
