I have a well used 90 gallon that I just bought. i resealed it yesterday. While I was scraping the old silicone I decided to clean the glass with soapy water and a razor blade. (this is how we used to clean a new window when we glazed them in). I got the glass very clean and then noticed all the scratches from the previous owner. One spot is actually a divot in the glass and has algae in it. Very hard to clean it out.

All that, to ask this:
Is there anything I can do to reduce the scratches in the tank?

Hello; I do not know of any repair for the scratches, but have found that they can be somewhat less visible when a tank has water it it. The lighting can play a big role in reducing the sight of the scratches if the light does shine directly on the front panel.

Trying to take scratches out of glass i've heard is a real P.I.T.A, you basically need to find some one who can buff it out, which can be dangerous since you may weaken the glass a bit...

Honestly, depending on how bad it is, i would probably leave it, as trying to get rid of it maybe be more effort than its worth...

Trust me once you have water and tank mates in there your focus will be on them not the scratches.

Turtle wax polishing compound will soften the edges of the scratches and will make them less visible...takes a lot of elbow grease to get noticable results though. I used a buffer for waxing cars with this to help clean up my tank.
