Hello,

I recently bought a 30 gallon tank from craiglist and I noticed some remark scratches on the tank. None of them are deep by any means, in fact they are very light, but kind of an annoyance if you ask me.

It is in my office so I would like keep it as clean/professional looking as possible.

The one problem is that the scratches are inside the tank...

Any suggestions on how to get rid it would be much appreciated...

They have scratch removers that can work underwater if you want to fill it first. Let me tell you, it can be alot of work. Good luck, The Doctor.

Thanks Doc...any suggestions for a particular brand...I am definitely willing on putting in the time. In fact, I painted the base three times...took forever but it was worth it.

Do u guys know a place where I can get it cheap? I got the whole thing off craiglist for $50. Unfortunately its a custom tank, i think...its a 30 gallon but is 2ft by 2ft...taller than most tanks....you think home depot or lowes will be able to make me one?

if its acrylic use novus steps 1, 2, 3...
if its glass... good luck.. for the time/money you spend working on it you might as well just buy a new one.. heres a link with a basic walkthrough for glass polishing and a kit for sale (ive never used their product its just the one i have bookmarked..) you might want to swing by a local glass shop and see if they can give you any advice or if they have any small kits..

i would like to add to this post. I just recently brought a 210 used with alot of scratches along the top. I looked into this polishing kit and ended up finding the cerium oxide local at a glass shop. The guy was kind enough to give me a cup full. After about a hour of buffing with no results i gave up, It did "polish" the glass but thats about it, maybe i had to keep doing it. But imo its not worth the hassel. I just have to deal with the scratches which isn't really noticeable with water in the tank. Its just a matter of preference knowing the scratches are there and im use to new tanks. get what you pay for.
