arite guys here's the deal, i've dealt with ammonia spikes and ammonia problems before but this one has me saying what the hell man....... here's the story, ive had a eclipse 12 (HARDER TO CARE FOR THEN MY BIG TANKS) tank set up for a while i modified the filter to hold Aquaclear 30 media and a bag of fluval biomax....... about a month ago i went digging through my sand subtrate to look for my tire track eel, and lemme tell you all hell broke loose, ever since i cant get my damn ammonia down, water changes all the time, checked my tap ammonia and its fine...... even bought a Fluval 10i internal to back my stock filter out and still nothing, now my fish are developing an ick problem that im trying to treat with salt but tis hard to treat because i have to keep doin water changes, and i dont wanna use meds cause i dont wanna kill beneficial bacteria in a high ammonia tank.... any suggestions before i throw this tank out the window.... tanks not over stocked and not over fed, as a matter of fact i feed them twice a week and enough to keep then content..... what the hell to do....? swap subtrate? buy aquatic plants? any help cause at this point i hate looking at this tank.....

dude, i dont know. i have always liked eclipse.....
do a 75% water change, that should help

personally I try to never disturb my substrate to quickly I think it will just mess up water chemistry, usually only way I disturb it is with vacum so any junk goes up the tube and down the drain.

hope you can fix it

I know you can get pockets of sulphuric acid building up under sand.. but I don't know enough to make a reliable comment.

How long had your substrate been there undisturbed?
Any reason for a filter crash?

I would do a large water change every day till the level came right down. I also use a product called cycle which is a bacteria aid (not actual bacteria in a bottle poop)

I agree just do regular large water changes and skip the cycle bottle. It screwed up my params so badly. Good luck with the tank.
