My datnoids, are scratching/rubbing theirselves against my driftwood, gravel, rocks etc.. They do this every one in awhile and tend to shake there heads vigerously. I heared they might have a gill parasite and was told to add copper to the water which I did but I only added a bottle which treats 90 gal ( did this on friday ). does any one know whats wrong with them?

Its probably ich/ick. I remember when my fish kept scratching and itching and shaking, After i found out these were symptoms of ich, I grabbed salt and raised temp. After that, they didnt scratch or itch anymore! :)

I had 6 dempseys then and my pleco had it too, they would all consistently scratch and itch all the time.

good luck :)

ich is the most common problem.
A comment though on what you said about only having enough copper for 90G, if your tank is larger than 90g adding just that ammount is a bad thing. Undermedicating can lead to the developement of resistant disease strains.

hmm, I added it awhile ago and have done 2 w/c sence then, nothing I can do now :(. It's probably ich But there are no sighns of it. I've added 20 spoons of salt, and am gona put the heater in tonight. I'm gona be doing a w/c tonight also.

How big is the tank?

120gallon, It has 1 emperror 400, 1 aquaclear ( bigges model they make cant remember the number) 1 protein skimmer, and a Sponge filter.

It has 2 datnoids ( the only ones show symptoms )
1 endi bichir
4 clown loaches

than 6 baby fish seperated by a diy divider.

why?

What is your tank temp. If its in the 80 degree plus range maybe it's not ich.. since they can't tolerate high temps. My second guess would be gill flukes.

You can use quick cure, it will take a slight hit at yor bio filter.. Or you can try prazi pro by Hikari. Prazi is safe on biofilter.

With the 76 F temp it is probably ich, gill flukes are a near second, prazi/metro mix is available from junge as parasite guard and won't hurt the filter BB. For salt treatment you need 2 tsp per gallon (240 tsp for your tank, that is 80 tbsp, or 5 (8oz) cups of salt. dissolve in water before adding
