I've been cycling my tank for about a week and a half, so far so good. I was just checking out everything and noticed somehow a screw got down into my corner overflow:cry:. I know if this was my saltwater this would be a big problem, is metal a big problem in a freshwater tank also? I could get it out if I have to, but would pretty much be a PIA.

Thanks.

Nah. I use steel paperclips as grounding probes without a problem. But a screw made of alloys and plated could leech some bad stuff over time. Just remove it and do a few big water changes and you'll be fine. I promise.

If your very worried pick up a telescoping magnet at home depot or something, $3 at the most. If it doesn't stick to the magnet, no worries cause it won't corrode. Steel has iron that will rust, but only iron will be magnetic. Anything else will be nonreactive and thus be fine if it is left with the fish.

Well, some screws are incredibly cheap and may be plated soft metals. As suggested, use a magnet. Possibly even a magnetic algae scraper would do the job just fine as long it doesn't get caught against the panel and scratch it.

"But how do they get in there?"

oh wait that only works for the light bulb..

haha, wow. I just stopped the pump for a few, pulled out the Durso pipe and grabbed the screw. It was a nasty looking one. Its better to be safe than sorry. Thanks for the help!
