Scrounging on the beach

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dunno...it's common knowledge here on MFK that a piece like that needs to be boiled, bleached, acid-etched, disinfectant-soaked, UV-irradiated, freeze-dried, sun-baked, X-rayed, sanded, cryogenically de-stressed, epoxy-coated, blessed by a priest and examined with an electron microscope...at an absolute minimum...before it can be considered safe to put into a tank.

Seems like you're playing pretty fast and loose here...:nono:

I actually have one of those jumbo sized commercial pots I would boil big pieces in. Only problem is (besides taking up the whole stove) If you don't put boiling water in at first it takes forever to heat up! Makes a good emergency tank too. I've got it in the garage right now.

I have a big one as well, aluminum so I don't use if for food. It's actually sold as a turkey deep-fryer and has its own stand and burner so it is used outdoors.

I don't boil wood or rocks...I'm a heretic...but I use it for boiling skulls when doing Euro-mount taxidermy. :)

Since I live about 10 miles out in the Pacific water quality is pretty good here most if the time, and the salts kills most freshwater paracites before they beach here,
unless there is an oil spill (or sometime like that),

The one above in 2021 was quite serious
I've been collecting wood for almost 10 years without doing anything to it.

When I lived in Milwaukee, I was much more persnickety about stuff foud on the shore on the shores or lake Michigan.

I don't think there will be much wood left after all of that
