do you think i could put some scrubbies in a extra HOB that i have lying around for some extra bio media? or would it make no difference/ be pointless or wouldnt work at all?

scrubbies for bio media? or you mean mech?
either way you can add scrubbies if itll fit. no
harm in adding extra filters. no such thing as
over filtration! "THIS... IS... SPAR~.......MFK!"

I thought people were using them for bio, cause of all the surface area either way im tired of buying filter cartridges for it and yea it would be the third hob on the tank :D and the ones people are using are just pot scrubbers uyou can buy at a grocery store? Nothin special?

I bought a box of fluval ceramic rings and tossed them into nylon bags which I put into my emperor 400's. One side has ceramic rings, the other side has floss. Works like a charm. The charcoal cartridges are a waste of money and break down super fast when you have a large bio load, so unless you feel like ponying up large cash for those cartridges, then find something else.

I have HOB that I filled full of Pillow stuffing. Seems to be working great.

I've put everything AND the kitchen sink in my HOB filters. Scrubbies, floss, ceramic, sponges, carbon, purigen, etc. It will definitely help regardless of what media you put in there. Scrubbies are equally mech and bio IMO. Large surface area and won't clog very easily either.

Great, thanks for the responces im going to try them its a 55 gallon with a ac110 penguin 200 which im switching to scrubbies and a tetra 20 which I will fill with bio of some kind. theres no such thing as too much filtration :)
