i forget
this isn't a DIY but,

i just picked up a 130 gallon tank, stand, lights, and 2 big hob filters for 170$. not to bad i dont guess. only thing is the tank is acrylic and someone has tried to clean it and used something a little rough and the tank has scuffs all over it. the guy said he filled it with water and u couldn't hardly tell ne thing was wrong with it but i havent filled it up myself to see. got to wait till 2morrow for some help to get it out of my truck. ne ways. im wondering if there is ne product or way to get some of those scuffs out. maybe a good hand buffing with some kinda compound? i really have no clue about acrylic so im just lookin for some advice.

thanks

get the Novus 1 2 3 comounds. they work great. if the scratches are deep you may need to sand and/or use a buffer

Yeah, for any large-ish tank I suggest using a buffer with novus 1 2 and 3 if you want to do it in less than 8 hours, lol.

yeah im afraid of using a buffer. if it gets to hot or takes to much off it ill have a mess. where do i pick up this "novus" stuff?

any plastic shop should have it, or online. FYI, its very very hard to damage acrylic with a buffer. ive used the buffer at super high RPMs w/o any ill effects.

A buffer is fine and you can pick one up at Harbor freight for about $20.00. Novus is the best for acrylic, just be sure to rinse well between steps. I had to order mine online, it seems ppl dont use it much around here.

Hey, what's the max RPM you would suggest for buffing scratches out of acrylic with Novus?

ill try that. hopefully i can get these scuffs out. will be a nice tank with plenty of room if i can just get it looking right. the fish will get lost for a yr or so lol. a bunch of 3-4" fish with that much room. probably going to pick up a couple black ghost knives. and some oscars. could probably even get an arowana. stock is still up in the air but @tm thats wat im thinkin. the bgk, some oscars, maybe a green terror (if he will turn bright green). dunno what else.

It takes alot of work and you may have to repeat the steps several times(rinsing between every step). The trick is to take your time with it. The more time spent the better the end result will be. Slow and easy....
