SD and Oscar

will a single SD do ok in a 55 with a oscar or should there be more SD. I dont want to take up too much tank till i get a bigger one.Just was looking to keep the oscar entertained by bugging something

sd's are schooling fish so i would get atleast 3 of em. i dont know if your oscar will pay any attn. to em though, i have 9 sd's and my O acts like they arent even there.

Depends on size and temperment of oscar. Mine took out everything in the tank but the pleco, and if he was on front glass oscar would try and take a bite.

SDs will do much better in a group...I have 6 in with my oscars & they pay them no attention.

How large is the oscar now?

As for keeping the Oscar "entertained"...Are you serious? Don't add fish that you know may be hurt or bothered by him

Don't put anything in with that O. Believe me if you want SDs wait until you have a bigger tank. Oscars are solitary fish mostly anyway.

if you want tankmates with this oscar in the future, youll need to put some with him now. id put 4 sds in there with him unless your not upgrading because thats overstocked.

my Oscar is about 8 inches now..I guess i was overfeeding him because i skipped feeding him in the evening and today he was all over the tank. Is it possible he was just stuffed and kicking back. He really is playfull now.

sounds quite likely...mine will eat constantly if I'll feed them, but they do much better on several small feedings each day
