I've got 8 spotted silver dollars 6 are currently at or just over 3 inches while 2 are smaller.
I house the larger 6 with 2 Oscars a Jack Dempsey and 2 Pictus in a 180 gallon tank
while I keep the smaller 2 in a 20 gallon to help avoid them being eaten is this enough space for these fish I worry about the smaller two I know they have plenty of space now at only 2 inches but they don't seem to swim together or school like the 6 in the large tank.
I just wanna know how long these fish or the 6 in my 180 should take to hit the 5-6 inch size they max out at? They are currently fed twice a day on a variety of foods however mostly floating and sinking pellets
I just saw on an old thread on MFK from a guy who bred silver dollars stating that the orange located on the side of the fish and and in the tail indicates they are males is this statement true?

He went on to show a picture female which he said look like the individual in this photo.
I'm just wondering if this is an accurate way to sex spotted silver dollars because if so it looks like I have 2 males and 6 female fish at this time.
Finally what is the black some of these fish seem to develop it wasn't easy finding a clear picture online as I recently broke my outward facing camera but this is the best I could find. What is this one of my fish looks exactly like this without the orange any clue???
