Ive caught a bunch of sea robins in Pensacola bay...I know far from you, but I never cught them in the ocean. Use small hooks with a weight that can get the bait down to the bottom. A simple fish finder rig will suffice. Baits like squid and shrimp would be perfect!
We get them in New York as junk fish when fluke fishing. A lot of people throw them back because of their appearance. If you want to eat them, cut off the head and peel off the skin with pliers (don't waste time trying to scale it). The flesh is firm and sweet.
They like almost anything - clam, spearing, squid, mussels, killies, sandworms, etc. You can catch them with a fish finder, by jigging if on a boat, a plain bottom rig, just fish the last of an incoming or first of an outgoing tide and you will catch.
if you want lil babies just go to some docks and jig for them or use a tiny spoon like a swedish pimple. those little guys are so cool. try bridgport if youre close to it or calf pasture beach in norwalk
i went out fishing yesterday and i was on the other side of this river mouth from bridgeport. i caught nothing but my dad got his first ever striped bass. tiny one but still a fish. ill try the docks around here. my friend said he caught a few at the dock by his house
Come down New Haven area and go to Branford. Go to Brandford Point or Stony Creek TONS of Robins over there. I mean it's incredible. Especially Stoney Creek area. Bridgeport blows for fishing. Also off a rock I caught my biggest blue fish off a mackerel head he was about 38"( estimate) head to tail but he was a bigggg SOB. When I got him out of the water he smacked me and my line rubbed against a rock while I was trying to get him back in and the line snapped. I was extremely pissed. Was exciting too because he caught good air coming out of the water. Off the point you catch some nice Strippers but nothing really over 30". Watch out for the eels at night thought the love to get caught for some reason lol. Brandford has GREAT fishing so go there.
Oh and if you want some great fresh water fishing go to the Resevoir in Wallingford CT on route 68 Great fishing as well.
