In search of Leiarius
I dontt have a marine tank , but i have seen quite a lot of interesting organisms for sale in the salt water section, my question is can sea sponges come in more than one color and what colors are they. Are they the same care level as corals and does anyone have pics. odd I know but it would be interesting to see a living sponge in captivity. thanks all

well sea sponge's have a bit more different requirement's in care due to the fact they are non-photosynthetic and don't have zoanthelle for food but require regular feeding's of small single celled algae's and some zooplankton and detritus. I dont have pic's at the moment but a search on yahoo will give you all kind's of site's to read and enjoy.

Porifera are such facinating orgs....Have kept a few over the years...blues, greens, yellows...spent time documenting these on the reef too, they are more diverse that people think....

As said above, they do need too be fed correctly...These so easy perish in the captive environment....Have a read here for some great info on them and the different types...

thanks reefscape and mr. reef24.

yeah color and shape depends on the species... the only ones i've seen for sale are red ball sponges and finger sponges (aka tree sponges) of course they are both reddish orange

if you can get good quality LR you can get some sponges at hitchikers.. i've gotten neon green, blue, pink, yellow and white sponges before
