I just recently bought this product and was wondering if any of you mfk'ers are using it. What are your thought on it?

This is the product info:

"Eight.four supplies a properly balanced (carbonate/bicarbonate) buffer system that yields an industry leading pK of 8.6 which makes pH maintenance of 8.3-8.5 easy. A higher pK increases the buffer s ability to counteract inevitable acidic sources in the water. eight.four will safely raise marine pH while adjusting alkalinity. Eight.four contains a concentrated balanced blend of bicarbonate and carbonate salts designed to restore disrupted buffer systems and increase carbonate alkalinity."

I have Kent's Superbuffer dKH... http://www.kentmarine.com/products/kent-superbufferdkh.htm

However talking with people on here I no longer use it. The use of chemical stabilizers makes the water fluctuate drastically which in-turn actually stresses the fish more than a stable pH that is lower or higher than the specified ranges...

I haven't used it in a few months and all my fish are fine as well as the handful of frangs and inverts in my tank

Good point here.

I use two part and mag salts. I dont think there is anything wrong with it, so long as you know how much your tank uses on a daily basis and you drip the amount needed into the sump slowly.

As far as seachem is concerned, i have never used it. I dont like products like that because they typically dont tell you how much of the product will raise "x" volume of water by whatever parameter you are tracking, and they leave you open for violent swings early on in the initial dosing phase.

+1...seachem makes great stuff, but you do have to do some tinkering to get dosing with their stuff right.

I always (used to) do before and after tests with different amounts. This way you can know exactly how many units "x" amount of seachem product will raise the desired nutrient.

Worked very well for me with their two part. That being said, I dont use any buffering products if I can help it, I feel that you are asking for a crash.
