Ok, so I used a water filter canister and filled it up with seachem denitrate and only have a slow flow. it's been running for 4 weeks now. What shock me is I have a different nitrate reading and I am thinking if it's really working.

the one on the left is coming from the water filter canister that has seachem denitrate and the one right is direct from the tank. Is this supposed to happen?

Denitrification happens when there is no oxygen in the canister. Since the nitrates are high coming from the canister, and then gets diluted in the tank, that means that there is still oxygen in the canister, and Seachem denitrate is still colonized with aerobic bacteria rather than anaerobic bacteria.

I see. How long should anaerobic bacteria populate? I ran at least 2-3 feet air pump size hose going into the canister then maybe 3-4 feet hose going out of the canister since I read that the water needs to travel for too long for oxygen to dissolve. Or is my gph too fast? It's not actually a drip method thing since seachem mentioned that it should be less than 50gph for it to work.

GPH is too fast. It needs to slow down so that oxygen from the water runs out while in the canister. There's quite a few folks who DIY denitrate reactors, so I would search for that and see how complicated the process is.

Ok I will try to do it as drip method and wait for another month to test. Thanks a lot Rocksor Rocksor . Like your name, you rock!
