Hi all. I know it's become a common occurrence to put pothos and what not in the HOB to help eat up some nitrates.

Well, I saw somewhere that some people did orchids, and that is what I have been doing. I put my 1-1.5 year old orchid in my hob, and it instantly started looking very healthy. It has tons of bright green leaves on each side.

But no blooms.

Could i add something like seachem flourish safely without harming any fish to help out the orchids? Would it even help them? Would it encourage blooming at all?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I added a couple brand new flowered ones into my other tank in each hob and so far so good.

SeaChem Products are wonderful, everyone uses this line where I am from. The elements in the analysis are trace amounts, so I would think it would be ok. It does have Cl as the largest amount listed, but as long as you are using something like prime I don't think it would be an issue.

They have a great website on their products, and also a support page and Q & A. Flourish Excel states on the Q & A that it is completely fish safe. If you want to be sure go ahead and ask at this link

Your experiment sounds interesting. Hope it "flourishes" for you :-D

I looked into safety for fish and found that it was okay, just don't overdose to be safe.

But does anyone have insight on if this will benefit my orchids or is it just beneficial to aquatic plants?

It won't be very helpful to a terrestrial plant. It is perfectly safe to use with fish.
