I'm looking into using this in an FX5 or Eheim 2217. Has anyone used matrix in either of these? If so what is your experience compared to biomax or Ehfisubstrat/subtrat pro?

I use it in a fx5. I don't test my water that often so I can't say if it does or doesn't remove nitrates but at the very least it works well as standard bio media.

I just bought a gallon of this, haven't received the shipment yet, but I'll let everyone know how it goes! I plan on using it in my FX5, Fluval405, AquaClears, and penguin/marinelands

Go with 3L of Matrix, it would be so much cheaper than eheim/fluval's biomedia

OKAY! DO NOT BUY IT FOR FX5! I got a 4L bucket of seachem pond matrix for 40 bucks... and I DEEPLY regret it. It rattles and makes OBNOXIOUS noise inside the filter! I donated the 4L to my LFS....

You must not be using enough in each basket!

I tried 4 different times! :/ and there are 4L of it, ive tried it with all 4 L and with lower amounts too....you just hear a rattle.... Im just using the Biomedia from fluval... nice and quiet.

I used 1L in each basket. Haven heard any noise.

I just got my 5.3 gallon bucket from seachem about a week ago. Its in my 4 Fx5s, and i have absolutely no noise with about each basket half full. I have a bunch in my W/D too and I already like it way more than the old ceramic rings i had.

And if a rattle was a problem, and it wasn't the filter itself, why didn't you just bag the matrix to keep it from knocking around? I don't have the issue. but that seems like a very simple fix.
