seachem purigen ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use it on all of my tanks, can't say enough good stuff about it.

Perfect replacement for carbon, excellent water polisher as well as rechargeable!

Soak it in 1:1 ratio of bleach and water, then soak in water and prime or similar product. Exact details should be available on your link.

how do you recharge it

Regeneration: Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metalic container in a well ventilated area and away from children. Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 2 tablespoons of ChlorGuard™, Prime®, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well. Original color and full activity should now be restored and Purigen® is ready for reuse. Caution: some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen® and render regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if odor of chlorine is detectable. In case of doubt, soak beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.

Not to hijack the thread, but since some of you have responded, I have a question about purigen as well. I bought the 250ml bottle along with Seachem's "the bag" but I can't find a good way to seal the bag up aside from using a "chip clip". In all I feel there's a lot of bypass using the bag, but the purigen balls are so small I'm not sure what else can keep it contained.

How do you "deploy" your purigen and keep it contained while minimizing bypass?

I've used zip ties to seal the bag. As far as bypass, I have enough purigen to create a layer about a 1/2" thick in the tray that I'm keeping it in. I have 500ml in a fluval 205 which is a lot more than needed but the price difference between 250ml and 500ml wasn't much so I just went 500ml. I also use 1 liter in an ac110 on another tank and its in a fine media bag with a Velcro seal, this completely covers the sponge a out 1/2" thick.

I'm sure you probably need no more convincing... but for good measure... i'm going to jump in and say the stuff is AMAZING at polishing water... i've never used any product thats cleaned my tank as well as purigen...
