I have lost 3 nice polys to suicide over the last few months. They crawled out of holes I didn't think they could fit through. I lost an 18" Ornate, A Palmas, and a Delhezi. I guess it takes to tragedy to learn a lesson, but I've remedied the situation. A Neon Tetra couldn't jump out of my Poly tanks now. Don't make the same mistake. They will find a way out. Seal it up.

The Endli is safe and secure now. I still have 3 Ornates, a Delhezi, a Buetikofferi, A Senegal, an Albino Senegal, A Palmas, and the Endli.

Ha! I've got 2 10lb weight plates on top of my tank glass cover. Totally sealed off from all escape.

Unfortunately I let my uncle have my Delhezi and he didn't think about that..sure enough...He came home to a dried up delhezi on the ground.:(

Yep seal polys tanks completly just like Aro tanks

I've got all my tanks in the basement so hopefully if a poly gets out it will last longer on Cement then on Carpet

Ewurm did the tank have euro bracing, ie with braces around all the openings and not just the ends??

I have a little theory, based on all my bichirs having a habit of swimming up and down with their nose pressed against the glass and occasionally splashing out of the water at the top. My tanks have braces on all four sides, which of course don't move if the fish hits them. If there was a lid (even worse, with a corner cut off for pipes) it would be pretty easy for a bichir going crazy to hit it and force his way out, but not with a fixed brace.

I've only lost one ornate to jumping, the tank was sealed well and he must have got out during a late-night water change and I didn't check that all three were in the tank after I'd finished. The grow-out tank for my 4 little dels has all the gaps taped up and the water about 3" lower than usual, I'm not taking any chances with them!!

very sorry for all your losses.
i've personally never had a poly jump before.
even when i left my tank open a few times.
i did have a few erythrinus erythrinus jump ship before though.

Hmmm, i did not even know that bichir were jumpers ... in any case, my sole bichir is with aros, so the tank is sealed
