:confused:would you be able to use a garage two part epoxy sealer or a rubberized sundeck coating paint in a plywood aquarium build ive been playing with the idea but its a little expesive for an experement.

I have tested a couple of small areas to see if a mason sealer (like drylok)
would stick to fiberglass resin and it does not.

Dont think it would stick to a two part epoxy trying to figure out a way to downsize cost to finish sealing my 140 gallon ply tank.

I have one coat of stone effects counter top coating (im happy with the results but not price per volume)

Then i sprayed a masonary under coat and sealer wich worked wonders to addhese the fiberglass resin i put on top of it because the stone effects was getting rediculously expensive.

Then i painted it all and tried to fiberglass resin again(BIG MISTAKE) i had some bubbles and peeling that i fixed up.

but now im having trouble sealing the rest at a decent price because of all the previous sealers marine epoxy resin has proved to be EXTREMELY DIFFUCULT TO FIND around here one person dirrects me here then that person
dirrects me elsewhere.:irked:
I

yes i know but like i said ive used it and ive painted some of the areas and it dosnt addhese to it i have a coat of epoxy under the paint i dont want to lose stupid me should not have painted it yet.

should i remove all paint and re fiberglass resin im prepared to take this route but debating on coating over with some more stone effects counter top coating an expensive route to take that im having diffuculty affording on this size.

Why are you having so many troubles finding what you need? And why did you fibreglass the tank too? Something that small if built of 3/4" ply won't need anything else - I just did a 200 and have no bowing.

In Calgary you should be able to get the West Systems epoxy from Glenmore boats (or something like that). I had contacted them a couple of years ago and they were easily able to order in what I needed. Or find a Sherwin Williams paint dealer and order in some Dura-Plate 235 - there's a ton of products out there that are NSF/ANSI 61 safe, so even though the staff doesn't know what you're talking about, if you do they can look them up in their catalogues or call their reps. I would never use garage floor sealer or deck sealer as they're not potable water safe, and would most likely end up leaching something that will kill your fish. Not too sure why you decided to go with stone effects, but I sure hope that it's potable water safe too.

yeah i actually just finished a 90 gallon build and did a water test without a problem and my 150 is now up and running the final coating is a fiberglass resin after alot of my reading i didnt think it had sufficiant sealers but after my 90 test i discovered it had more than enough .

I also read that alot of people used fiberglass resin to seal theire tanks so i cant see it being a problem.

i was just asking about the other stuff out of curiousity.
