Hey guys (and gals!), I've got a question for you. I'm going to take a look at a 250 gallon tank and stand that's on Craigslist for a great price. The only issue is that someone drilled the bottom of the tank, but there aren't any overflows. What do you use to seal holes in the bottom of the tank (that won't end up with water all over our floor!)? I'm pretty sure the tank is glass, but won't know a lot of details until Saturday. Thanks for input in advance -- I hate to pass up this good deal.

put a bulk head on it with just an pvc endlet.

worked for me.

If you do not wish to use the hole...

Either put a bulkhead fitting on it and put a cap on it...

Or get a square of glass and silicone it over the hole. The glass does not need to be exceptionally thick as it is only being asked to plug a 1~2" hole... 1/4" works fine...

I've capped several drilled tanks with such pieces of glass and have never had one leak...

+1 with nc. They both will work. I you go with the silicone and the glass, it will be a little difficult to grt it off if you change your mind.

I've removed a glass patch that I put on... it wasn't difficult at all. I just put a fresh razor blade in on eof those retractable razor blade handles and cut it out...

I much prefer the glass patch over the bulkhead fitting + end cap simply because it is a flat smooth patch and I do not have to have an unsightly nub in the back of the tank and do not have to ever be concerned with bumping it.
