Sealing a hole

if i am to seal a pre-drilled hole in a 1000 L tank, will the glass have to be at least as thick as the base?

the hole is about 2 inches in diameter.

No.

It would be just as easy however to buy a bulkhead to fit the hole and then a plug to screw into the bulkhead Hence sealing it.

Nah i was going to maybe run a filter through the hole but i just cant be bothered i'd rather just seal it.

I would use a 1/2 inch just to be safe And silicone it right over the hole.. Vuala your done
