How difficult is it to reseal a large tank? Someone is advertising a very large tank, 72x30x36 (although he says it's 250 gallon) but he says it needs to be resealed. I imagine it's an old tank and very very very heavy. I might try to low ball him even though he isn't asking much but I'm not sure if I'm up for sealing a tank that large and chancing it leaking / busting.

If its glass, its not that difficult, just very time consuming and you need alot of attention to detail. youll need lots of razor blades, painters tape, and some alcohol (both kinds incase you get thirsty..lol) be sure to strip out all the old silicone with the blades and alcohol. Remember if your just resealing to not cut thru the actual joints, and only what is exposed (not between the glass panels). Tape where you want your seems to end. I went with almost a half inch with my 220. Apply a thick bead of silicone, and smooth with your finger or smooth surface. Let it set for a little bit then remove your tape. Let it cure for at least 48 hours.

I use a rubbing alcohol to help clean up the area. And the other kind of alcohol when i get thirsty or frustrated

Hopefully Jack Daniels :D:headbang2

I'm going to see if he'll come down much. I just bought a 120 and sank a lot of money into it.. But if he'll come down it might be worthwhile for me..

Be warned though that resealing does not always fix the problem. I just had a tank empty itself on me after I bought it used and resealed it. When I stripped it down again I saw that the silicone had been torn off by the bowing of the tank due to a poor joint seal. Be ready with a sump pump and a shop vac...its not fun

I think I'm going to pass, he only wants $300 but he said he won't come down anymore and I have enough "projects" going on.

Tell him you want to come see it. Come with $250 cash. Offer him $200 and be prepared to take it if he says yes. I'd pay $250 for a 250g. Then take the whole thing apart and put it back together. I did it with my 190g. It sounds a lot more intimidating than it is in reality. Research as much as you can before embarking on the project.
