so i found a 75 gallon fish tank on craigslist for $50. The only thing is that it needs to be sealed. How hard is it to seal a tank and make sure that it will not leak? Also, is it worth it to buy a 75 gallon tank for $50 and seal it?

Thanks

Resealing a tank is easy, and yes I think it is well worth buying a 75g tank for $50 and resealing it. Especially if it comes with a stand and other things like the lid and lights.

& here's my suggestions to resealing the tank...

Remove all the old silicone, even the areas where it doesn't leak...because when you apply the fresh silicone, it doesn't bond very well or at all to old silicone. & if you apply the fresh over the old, you'll most likely just have to reseal the tank again later.

DO SO IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA...or wear a facemask and some safety glasses lol. The stuff STINKS! Last time I resealed a tank it made my eyes water and I could barely breath (I know..dumb on my part..I learned from it though)

Also make sure the silicone is nontoxic...I would also wait 3 days for it to dry after you resealed it (& no sooner than 2 days)...the extra time will give the sealant extra strength! :)

A problem I found is that my seams had air bubbles in. So if I had to do it again I would apply less silicone and use a firmer smoothing tool, like rubber spatula with cut out corner.
