Sealing internal overflow holes

Does anyone know how to go about sealing the holes to make them water tight after you run your pvc through? I have aquarium safe silicone, but there is too big of a gap? What type of fitting is most commonly used?

I assume your referring to a bulkhead, make sure to size the hole and bulkhead size correctly.

Do not simple silicone around a pipe running through a hole... use a bulkhead fitting...

thank you all very much. I got the bulkhead fittings...which cost me a fricken arm and a leg...and everything is sealed up nice and tight.
