Wanted to know if anyone has any experience in keeping Mono Sebaes in pure freshwater? If I am understanding correctly a lot of these fish are being captive bred now and apparently have a much higher tolerance for freshwater. Didn't know if they could possibly end up being like the tiger scats, a brackish water fish that is possible to keep in FW?

I think arapaimag had a massive school of monos in his 50K tank. Full FW

Ask any of the tiger scat (african scat, striped scat, whatever) keepers here.... I have yet to hear of any of them keeping them in brackish/marine. I own 9 scats myself (4 grn 1 red 4 slvr)..... I too thought it was strange.... But then again if the specimen itself is in good health maybe it will just adapt to whatever........ If I'm not mistaken even one of the vendors here had thiers in fw.... I know one of the mods keeps it fresh too....

Are you sure you are not referring to Datnoids. Mono Sebaes need high end brackish to full marine.

Thank you Oddball. Care to comment on Sebaes in freshwater? Craig.....I know the difference between Sebaes and Dats.... I keep them both.... I have had Sebaes for 5 years now.....in very LOW brackish.....just like my Argentinians, Tiles, red, silver, and green scats, stonefish, and silver dats.

Sebaes should not be kept in freshwater. These are brackish water fish and need sea salt in their water.

These are the living requirements of this fish, if you choose to continue to keep the fish in freshwater thats fine, when it dies later on you'll know why.
