I am currently taking input on redecorating my brackish tank and have heard alot about having sand as a substrate instead of gravel. Like the idea but have heard many comments of algea/fungus growing in the sand and was wondering what precautions you can take to keep it from forming/growing? Also how do you clean sand. With the gravel i just use a suction hose for all excess food not eaten and cleaning purposes. With the same hose i would think sand would just get sucked right up too. Or what about crushed shells/coral? Or is that only for salt tanks?
Sorry i have a rambling problem, i know. But any and all help would be appreciated.
