I just learned that there is Cycling a tank with possibility of losing the fish used. Then the recommended "Fishless Cycling". And then "seeding" a tank with current filter or another current set up aquarium.

What are some ideas or ways to see a new tank with items from a already established tank?

Im moving my Festaes to a newer tank. My brother man told me to just use a current canister and its almost instant. Sounds cool. And I will be using ALL the decor from there current tank into the new one. The only thing that will new to there environment is the substrate. and the hose water I used to fill the tank from scratch.

In the past I read about sponge filters being used. But not sure how long the spnge filter was in the established tank before going into the new tank. And not sure a sponge filter can "seed" a 125 gallon tank.

with an established filter and deco you're fine. add enough dechlorinator for the tank as you start to fill and you'll be good.
cycling is simply raising enough bacteria to handle the bio-load, with the items from an established tank you're moving the bacteria in.

Im doing the same from a 50 to a 240 lol. everything including Sand Deco two HOB and an FX5 is getting moved over. Im hoping Ill be ok as well.

it'll be the same as with the original tank. as long as you don't slam in a bunch of new fish, you should be fine. you could have some problems if your sand has anaerobic pockets, disturbing them can release toxins into the water.
how deep is the sand and do you have any burrowing/digging fish or snails.

My Pool Filter Sand is only 1.5" thick. And ever since I got some "snail free" plants from PetSmart. I have had a bunch of trumpet Snails in the current tank. But I read that all them Trumpet Snails are good for moving them bad pockets in the sand around. But I am not moving the sand. Just all the decor, wood, filters, and fish.

I just noticed that my daughter had un plugged one of the 2 canister filters. LOL Little brat. And with my luck. It was the Rena XP4. Not the XP3. So now my delema is.... XP4 could have been off for 3 days and is running again since last night. And then the xp3 has never stopped. So do I seed with the XP4 or the XP3. And will there be enough good bio in the tank and one of the other filters to get the new tank going? Or to keep everyone happy in there current tank untill its ready?

Thanks

Thanks everyone. Ill watch the amonia before I add the festaes. There new 125g tank is going to have the 2 filters they have now and 1 extra. So they will have 1 fresh rena xp3, 1 xp3 that has been on there current established tank for about 2 months. And 1 xp4 that my daughter may have messed up for me at the worse time. She un pluged my xp4 and im guessing it has sat still for 4 days. And tonight will be its 2nd day back on.

So seeding and knowing how and what to look for is real impotent :-) for me and my fav fish. Then to top it off. I have never seeded a tank before. But when I kmow its safe. They will have 2 xp3 (350gph) filters and one xp4 (450gph) running there newer 125g tank.

Thanks again everyone. I really dont want to hurt or lose the 20 baby (2") festaes that have never been moved since they were a fry.
