Hello
Thank you in advance for any possible good advice that may be given. I have a 9" tig which I bought at 3" with a completely fully Missing tail. Looked to either have been fun n tail rotted down to the base or chewed down by others before purchase. He eats and grows and behaves fine, and his tail has "grown" but deformed. See picture. I was seeking advice or thoughts on possibly trimming top and bottom of tail base to stimulate new growth. Other idea was to use a fresh sterile scalpel to "shave or scrape" a raw spot at base of tail to possibly stimulate growth. Anyone have experience or knowledge about this? Please help. Anything would be appreciated. Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

honestly its pretty hard to see from the pictures what exactly is the situation. If the damage is purely cosmetic it is your call. You can search the forums / internet for experiences with cutting arowana fin / tail procedures, although i am not aware of such an operation on tigs before. Maybe you can try to make another (sharper) picture (try to enable macro mode or increase the distance to the subject).

I had to do a fin cutting on a goliath tigerfish once and it provided great results. I can't speak for your fish though, the pics are simply to bad to be able to glean any information from them.

All I've ever seen done was done on much, much milder cases. This is barely a tail. It may be moot but this is a specialty knowledge that someone may possess.

BTW will you consider updating your thread on your 2'+ capapretum? You'd please many, Mike!
