where does everyone get seiryu stone (more specific than bonsai store)? I live in a small ish town, i.e. Small enough to not have a bonsai store and am relegated to looking online.

I know the lfs near me carries it for like 2 bucks a pound I think. Would be worth it to call a few and ask if you have a drive. Haven't seen it at any big chain store though.

Yeah ive got some calls out in the closest major city i.e. Phoenix az, pop here is 40,000 however petco and petsmart have managed to shut down every single lfs so for me to pick some up is at least 200-250 miles round trip so if I found an online seller with decent prices, shipping may almost the same as gas when it comes down to it.

I got shale from a stream. I live in NY. Why do you want Asian rocks? The USA has just as good rocks as anywhere else and they're free. Patriotic and good for your wallet.

Actually yeah, good point here. Since you are in az I'd assume there are some nice hiking trails and wash areas nearby where you should be able to get all types of good rock samples! I love collecting rocks from the desert. I would look for granite/quartz/feldspars/possible lava chunks etc. I've found some that should be in a display case haha. (Btw... cholla wood and manzanita are good driftwoods for the tank if they grow by you).

If you get them simply pour boiling water on them and scrub em with a toothbrush.

I currently have local rocks from a stream about..... 15 yards from my door (I really went hunting there!) and manzanita because it grows in abundance here in the tank now. Ive just thought about rescaping and always liked the look of that rock. Don't get me wrong, if I happen to see something ill grab it but seiryu is just on my radar.

On a side note, how exactly does cholla hold up in the aquarium? As a kid when I visited family in Tucson, I remember seeing it and it crumblied fairly easy, but then again it may have been there a while before I got to it.
