Hey guys,

I was wondering,
how do u guys started with your groep of pbass?

is there a minimum amount of fish u should have? i am curious what youre
opinion is about that.

Furthermore i really want to know of the pbass males are aggresive towards
eachother when they reach adult size. i see allot of movies on youtube with big groups of pbass and multible males in the same group, isnt that a problem?

im perticulary curious how 2 male pbass in 1 tank will do, if you buy just 2 and the both appear to be male fish.

thnx alot!

in my experience there hasn't been to bad of an agression problem with my cichlas...but of course there will be one that will set himself as the alpha male and keep the others in check...but many of us on here have alot more then 1 cichla in a single tank depending on size...and actually we incourage cichla owners to get more then 1...its called the CICHLA ADDICTION!!! gl!!!

See I got more than one because they tend to be happier in groups... And like said above one will reign dominance but other than that only ornos tend to be a little on the aggresive side... Good luck and welcome to cichla

X2 (except i only have 1 month of experience

oke guys thanx!

my idea was to buy approx 7 fish, and then watch them for a few months and pick the best 2/3 fish which get along the best and sell the rest. because i had problems with oscar fish who where very aggresive towards eachother, i made up this plan. But since im not experienced with pbass, im thinkin about buying 5 and just keep them, no mather if there multiple male fish or the group or not! thnx alot guys

i have 5 pbass that i bought together as a group.. and they have always been a group. there are 2 males in the group and one of them is pretending to spawn with one of the girls and there is no serious aggression between the males.. just a little chasing when one of the other fish get too close to their spawning site.

i almost never buy less than 3 cichla in a group.. of any kind. unless there is a special deal from a private party that only has one cichla to sell.. which is one of the really big reasons i've never bought a pinima or kelberi.. i can't afford 3 together.. lol.

:iagree: with everything above.. when i first bought my first batch i bought 3, then another 2 and then another 2 to have a total of 7 now.
They usually work out a heirarchy or pecking order and an alpha male will be established who you will notice rush the other peacock bass with its mouth open, this is nothing to be worried about unless serious damage is being done to the other bass.

always buy multiple because cichla, esp. when young, prefer being in a group.
ive raised them singly,in pairs,in 3s and so one.
ive found that the more of them there are,the more outgoing they will be.
as for the male vs male thing, its really hard to tell males until they start developing humps, which ive only seen in monos and some ocells i think.
they will form a hierarchy and everything will work out fine.
