Keep the water clean. Monitor for stress from the other fish.

Hello; This is a time when having an empty tank on hand is useful. It can be set up as a hospital tank. I keep the sponge part of a sponge filter in the back of a HOB filter so I can set up such a tank.
Of course if you use some medications the bb involved can be wiped out, so I keep a second sponge base in another HOB.

Watch for the other fish to pick at the wounded fish.

He is the top dog in a very mellow tank so aggression isn't an issue. Removing him on the other hand would be an absolute nightmare and likely to finish him off. Lunatic fish

Hello; If thing get to the point of some treatment other than keeping the water clean, then a hospital tank can be the better choice.

Some medications can wipe out the tank bb. The cost of medicating a big tank can be a factor. My opinion is when a lone fish needs medication a hospital tank is often best. Your call.
