I started to think about what would make a good pike lure and i though proberbly the most easy way to start would be to make a jig lure, so i cut 2 pieces of pine wood to 4"x1" pieces.

once i had my 2 pieces i took some card and drew around my block pieces for wood so i could design within the correct size, once i found the right design for me all drawn out on the card i cut out the template.

once i had my template i held it down tight to my pieces of 4x1 and drew around the template reversing the template on the other side of the wood giving me the correct shape on bothe sides of the wood.

once i drew out my design on each side of the wood it was then time to cut out my shape and get it ready for sanding down.

i have acctually run out of sand paper so i'm gonna bob out to the shop get some more, and the next time you read this article there should be more work and pic's.

This should be interesting. I have tried to make lures before, and the biggest problem I ran into is attaching the treble hooks themselves. Never found a good way strong enough to keep from pulling out.

Well get Crackin, i wanna see the finished product, and a picture of what they CATCH with the lure in the mouth still!!

Very good idea Dan, i wish i was patient enough!

Why go through all the work? Just stick some hooks in that pine block, I am sure you will catch some pike! LOL

Not a matter of 'caring' what the color is... It's what will catch their eye...

:D This is true I have 100s of lures and as I have said before the lure catches the angler more than the fish.

The colour can make the world of difference on fussy fish

Black is also a good deep-water lure colour . White is visible at many depths, because it reflects any available light. But just plane silver can be devastating just for the flash as a bait fish would flash past. But i am more of a stick a rattle in it man my self.
