I have a 55 gallon tank i am quite proud of, started off as 3 guppy's and different variety of tetras in a 30 gallon, is now 55 gallon tank complete with many many more guppy's now, the same tetras, 2 species of crab, and crayfish.
This ecosystem is insane, i haven't had any algal blooms for as long as i can remember, water parameters stay at nice levels and everything and everyone is happy.
now, i rarely do any maintenance on said tank at all, i mean, rarely. and everything is still in tip top shape. the last "disaster" that happened to it was Hurricane Ike when we had no power for 4-5 days. and even then we only lost 4 guppy's, an understandable loss when you have at least 40 of them.
Guppy's, they breed worse than rabbits, i tell you!
now the crabs, i have 2 Fiddler crabs, one male and one female that have mated twice, but not successfully, because you need some crazy set up I've heard, i wasint really expecting it. I also have 1 red claw crab.
I had 2 lobsters, that managed to mate before the male died, now there's tons of them in there that i need to deal with. (prolly just take them down to the lfs along with an overgrown pleco one day)
All i pretty much do is feed them regularley, but i'm almost positive if i wasin't their to feed them under some odd curcumstances the guppys would supply enough fry to last afew months without disaster.
I'm pretty proud of this feat ive done. my mom however hates the guppys and wishes she could just get rid of them all (i'm 16)
The guppys are getting alittle... old but i just can't get rid of them, even getting rid of the giant pleco and the little demond crays (they eat, or try to eat anything that rests on the bottom) is gonna be an emotional day for me.
anyways, enough of me talking, any of you have any outragously successful tank setups?
