if i was to get a 100,000 gal, lightly stocked tank could it be self sustaining? planted, natural sunlight tank takashi amano style shrimps, guppies, tetras, angelfish,etc i know some large reservoirs and private ponds are self sustaining, but would 100,000gal be big enough? although ill tell u right now im 15 and thats not happening any time soon in 30 years time 
maybe.... this would be like 1 foot thickness starphire glass, or acrylic, concrete supported with maybe a school of a couple thousand neon tetras, a couple hundred guppies, a few dozen angels, lots of dwarf shrimps like crystal red shrimp and those tiger shrimp, and EVERY single species of freshwater plant in the world 
exception of floating plants only a couple of those, otherwise they would overrun the tank. and i also believe 100,000 gal would be too tall for lilies if its over 5 feet cuz the stems only get so tall from the substrate. that would be awesome though a tank so big and tall its self sustaining, fully functioning food chain, and giant, non-dwarf lillies cant even reach the top. i love the idea of mimicking a gargantuan school of anchovies with neon tetras. and i also love the idea of a tank being so big it has its own food chain. that way i could put datnoids or bichirs or something in their with the little guppies and stuffs. i couldnt do most cichlids though that sucks i couldnt imagine if they uprooted all the live plants what i would do in a tank this size... it would be a nightmare. because its so big and their would be so many nooks and crannies the little fish could live and breed and eventually be eaten by bigger fish who get eaten by even bigger fish... and i would have a petrified tree in the center, maybe a full grown redwood!!! actually i think redwood might not work its not hardwood.... :[ well some kind of giant hardwood tree with all the branches still in tact. would this be ok? actually now that i think about something a bit closer to the size of the Georgia Aquarium sounds much better :} actually i would like to one day beat the record of the worlds largest tank. my goal is to create a setup capable of housing a full grown pair of BLUE WHALES for life. if i have to supplement plankton from a bottle so be it!! they eat like 1,000 tons daily, nothing a trip to the grocery store cant fix!
